FOCUSED ULTRASOUND

FOCUSED ULTRASOUND
Focused ultrasound is a therapeutic technique which allows to perform surgical treatments with no incision (as in radiotherapy) as well as
without using any ionizing radiation.
Focused ultrasound takes advantage of high frequency mechanical waves, namely ultrasound. This waves are focalized to produce a localized tissue ablation, without damaging the surrounding healthy areas. A single ablation has the dimension of a grain of rice. In case of large volumes to treat, multiple ablations can be performed.
Ultrasound imaging (echography) is also used for guiding and monitoring the whole therapy, thus allowing to identify and select the tissue to treat.

ROBOTICS
Robotics can play as the enabling technology for the application of focused ultrasound to surgical treatment.
Indeed, robotics ensures precise, repeatable and fully automated beam positioning and it dramatically reduces the total treatment time.
Furthermore, we take advantage of robotics to compensate for possible motions of the therapy target, thus improving the safety throughout the procedure.
